Maja Nikodemska-Josey

Maja is an Amsterdam based artist. Graduated from Academy of Fine Art in Lodz, where she was greatly influenced by suprematism and constructivism.
In 2002 she was awarded a full scholarship to Sommerakademie fur Bildende Kunst in Salzburg founded in 1953 by Oskar Kokoschka.
Her work was for years inspired by architecture. In this subject we can observe gradual move from figuration to abstract forms. The transformation is best represented by two cycles “Buildings” and “Rhythm”.
In her latest work she turned her inspiration from outside world and focus on inner experience. The series of oil paintings “UGLY” is a series of self-portraits depicting emotions which in our culture are considered ugly or inappropriate like anger, despair, jalousie.
